A very real romance, a death with controversy
On 31 August 1997, Diana de Wales died at the age of 36 in a traffic accident in the De l'Alma tunnel in Paris, with her partner Dodi Al-Fayed, who she acknowledged being fully in love. Much has been said about this death and this couple, accident, murder, real plot...
Lady Di, as she was commonly known, married Prince Charles of England in 1981 with whom she had two children, Henry and Gillermo, and after 15 years of marriage, in 1996 Diana was divorced from her husband's relationship with Camilla Parker-Bowles, she stated, "There were three of us in this marriage. There were too many people."
Although, chances of life, Diana and Dodi met at a polo match involving Prince Charles, it was not until mid-1997 that they met again and began their love story, as it has been estimated, the pair were only together for about seven weeks, but they seemed to be very serious. Mohamed Fayed, Dodi's father, stated in a post-death interview of the couple that they wanted to officially announce their engagement on September 1, the day after the accident. Although this is not known for sure. What if there's evidence is that Dodi bought a ring at Alberto Repossis jewelry store the same day they died. The ring belonged to a collection called Dis-moi oui (Tell me yes). There is also evidence that Dodi returned to the hotel carrying a brochure of that jewelry and was later recorded to Claude Roulet, Al Fayed's assistant, returning to the Repossi store to pick up an item he would later deliver to the hotel.
Whatever his love story was truncated, according to French justice, "because of the accident caused by the driver of the vehicle Henri Paul, who, having consumed alcohol and antidepressants lost control of the car after accelerating to evade the paparazzi".
Today Diana de Wales is still fondly remembered for her humanitarian work, for her generosity to others, but above all for her two great love stories. There are several memorials dedicated to the princess, the best known and the one that is considered official is the "Diana, Princess of Wales Memorial Fountain" which is located in Hyde Park in London and was designed by Gustafson Porter. Although perhaps the most beloved is in Paris, just above the tunnel in which he died was already a monument known as "The Flame of Freedom", a replica of the flame of the Statue of Liberty of the United States, a gift that the International Herald Tribune made to the city of Paris to celebrate the friendship between the UNITED States and France and which was placed next to the Bridge of Souls. When the princess died, thousands of people brought flowers to that monument to say goodbye to Diana, because because of her proximity to the accident it was the safest and most beautiful point to pay homage to, today it has become a symbol where tourists from all over the world still remember the princess. The place is free of charge. It is located near the northern end of the Puente del Alma, on Place de l'Alma, in the 8th arrondissement of Paris. Although Jetcost undoubtedly recommends visiting the most curious one found in the mythical Harrods department store (whose owner was until recently Dodi's father) located at 87 Brompton Road in London, in this memorial we can find two photos of the protagonists, four lit candles, flowers and the most curious, the last cup that Diana used in the Imperial suite of the Ritz , where they stayed in Paris and the famous engagement ring.
